Product Details

PML Mini Electromagnets put holding force under electronic control: energise the coil and the magnet grips at its rated force; cut the current and it releases instantly. Wound and rated in-house, they serve everywhere a design needs a compact, switchable grip — and they're available in both energize-to-hold and energize-to-release configurations, covered together on this page.

Where They're Used

  • Machine tools
  • Door locking / holding
  • Actuators
  • Feeder mechanisms — short-stroke, high-force operation
  • Automation: textile, packaging and office machinery
  • Grill locking
  • Transformers
  • Remote hold / release
  • Robotic pick-and-place operation
  • Magnetic grip through a small electromagnet
  • Automated table movement

Energize to Hold: Models & Specifications

These magnets grip while current flows at the rated voltage. Ambient operating temperature is 35°C; all models have threaded holes in the rear face for mounting.

Reading the Ratings Honestly
  • Holding forces are determined at room temperature on a polished steel plate (Q235B); in general the value is exceeded, though a −10% deviation is possible in exceptional cases.
  • Real performance depends on installation situation, temperature, counter-anchor and more — treat the values as orientation and ask our experts to verify your application.

Armature Plates: Getting Full Force From Your Electromagnet

An electromagnet always needs a ferromagnetic surface to clamp onto — generally mild steel or ferromagnetic stainless — and the quality of that surface directly affects performance. Our armature plates are quality ferromagnetic plates, sized to suit both energize-to-hold electromagnets and energize-to-release electro-permanent magnets, for use where no ferromagnetic surface exists or the existing one is not ideal.

They deliver optimum holding force by combining high magnetic permeability, low remanence, a minimised air gap and optimum magnetic pathways. Each plate has a counterbore hole for simple fixing, sized for M3 up to M8 screws depending on plate size.

Energize to Release: Models & Specifications

These electro-permanent magnets are permanently energised and release when current is applied — the fail-safe choice where the hold must survive a power failure. Ambient operating temperature is 35°C; all models have a central machined hole in the rear end.

Frequently Asked Questions

Energize-to-hold or energize-to-release — which do I need?

Ask which failure state is safe. If a power cut should release the load (door holders, feeders), choose energize-to-hold. If the load must stay held through a power cut (safety holds, robotic grippers mid-cycle), choose energize-to-release.

What surface does the magnet need to grip?

A ferromagnetic one — mild steel or ferromagnetic stainless. Where that doesn't exist or isn't flat, bolt on one of our armature plates and the magnet will deliver its full rated force.

Can PML customise voltage, size or force?

Yes. These units are wound and rated in our own plant — custom specifications are routine. Share your application and we'll wind to suit.
